Hi friends, you must be aware that series, The Dead Zone has been developed from a novel. If you are not aware of the same…well…now you know!

The show is inspired from the novel of the same name but some changes have been brought about in the televised version.

The show started off very well, with the episode “Wheel of Fortune“. Some minutes were spent on the childhood experiences of Johnny Smith, which were taken from the novel.

However, the difference between novel and the show is, that the novel spent nearly half of the 400-page book, on the times when Johnny was in the hospital, but the show has packed those events into approximately 40 minutes.

The Dead Zone episodes are well adapted from the novel, taking in just what is needed.

One change that was introduced in the series was the death of Johnny’s father. He was shown as such a strong character in the original story, but had little place in the series. In the novel, he was shown as a caretaker of Johnny, after his release from the hospital. However, in the series Reverend Purdy, has been shown in that character.

Apart from this, there’s another change which is quite interesting.

You must remember that the series of serial killings are Johnny’s first big incursion into intentionally using his brand new gift for serving others. By the closing stages of the pilot episode, Johnny is on the way to assist one of those murders.

Johnny’s ex-girlfriend, Sarah is married to the sheriff, who is investigating the murders. This makes it to see how Johnny can be called for assistance in the future episodes. However, in the novel, the sheriff was ready to do anything, in order to catch the killer. He takes Johnny’s help in a more logical way.

This event in the series is nicely portrayed and has gone well with the show. Many other things have been modified according to the demand of the story. This is how the entertaining The Dead Zone complete series has come up to us.
